Julian Assange vil denne uka komme med sin siste appell til de britiske domstolene om å unngå utlevering.
Hvis han blir utlevert, er det dødsdommen for pressens etterforskning av maktens indre virksomhet.
Julians «forbrytelse» er at han publiserte klassifiserte dokumenter, interne meldinger, rapporter og videoer fra den amerikanske regjeringen og det amerikanske militæret i 2010, som ble levert av Chelsea Manning, en varsler i den amerikanske hæren.
Denne enorme samlingen av materiale avslørte massakre på sivile, tortur, drap, listen over fanger som ble holdt i Guantanamo Bay og forholdene de ble utsatt for, samt regler for engasjement i Irak.
De som begikk disse forbrytelsene – inkludert de amerikanske helikopterpilotene som skjøt ned to Reuters-journalister og 10 andre sivile og alvorlig skadet to barn, alt fanget på Collateral Murder-videoen – har aldri blitt tiltalt.
